Editor (Independent Contractor): TL Publishing Group is seeking skilled and highly motivated manuscript editors (independent contractors) to provide copyediting, proofreading, and/or typesetting services for our clients.

 

Responsibilities:

   

Editors work directly with the Acquisitions Manager and remain independent contractors. Qualified applicants will receive an editing test and they will be required to execute an Independent Contractor Agreement with TL Publishing Group.

 

The editor will evaluate and assess the client query. Then the editor will be asked to provide an estimate to the Acquisitions Editor who will then forward it on to the client.

 

Please note that this is an independent contractor relationship opportunity. We cannot guarantee that work will be available. TL Publishing Group has no obligation to provide work for you now or at any time in the future. This is not a mutually exclusive arrangement. You are free to undertake editing opportunities wherever they might be.

 

The editor’s task is to ensure that a particular writing project complies with the instructions provided by the client. Specifically, the editor evaluates the writer’s work in the context of the services requested by the client. The editor will make any appropriate adjustments using Microsoft Word.

 

The editor will return the edited manuscript to the Acquisitions Editor along with an invoice for services rendered. The Acquisitions Manager will submit the invoice to the client. Once payment has been received, the Acquisitions Editor will release the edited manuscript to the client.

 

The Editor will receive a percentage of the customer payment, which will be paid out through PayPal or as agreed upon in the Independent Contractor Agreement with TL Publishing Group.

   

Required Qualifications:

  

  • Minimum 1 year editorial work experience or equivalent within the publishing industry.
  • Familiarity with a broad range of writing formats, particularly fiction writing
  • Strong understanding and awareness of the literary industry
  • Prior experience managerial skills
  • College degree or equivalent work experience
  • All candidates should have an excellent command of the English language
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently,
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, together with enthusiasm, flexibility, and team spirit
  • Thorough and detail-oriented, with a high degree of self-discipline
  • Proficiency with the following applications and software programs: Internet, email, Microsoft Word and Excel
  • High-speed Internet and a working computer
  • Ability to receive and send large email attachments in a timely fashion
  • Excellent grasp of English language
  • Knowledge of Chicago style preferred

   

Independent Contractor Benefits:

 

  • The editor enjoys the flexibility of choosing the hours during which he or she chooses to work.
  • The editor will receive his or her own @tlpublishing.org email address.
  • This position can be fulfilled remotely.

 

Payment:

  

  • The pay will is tied directly to the project the editors work on. Therefore, compensation is based on the number of pages edited.
  • Editors will set their own rate for each project.
  • Editors receive a percentage of the customer payment.
  • Payments to editors will be made through PayPal.
  • All Clients pay TL Publishing Group and TL Publishing Group pays the editors.
  • Editor will invoice company once he/she has completed the project.
  • TL Publishing Group pays all invoices within 30 days of receipt.
